# Clean Truck Fee

A clean truck fee is assessed by the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach as part of the Clean Air Action Plan in an effort to reduce air pollution. It may appear as a separate line item or be included within the Pickup & Delivery fee.

## What is a clean truck fee?

A clean truck fee is assessed by the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach as part of the [Clear Air Action Plan](https://www.portoflosangeles.org/environment/caap.asp) in an effort to reduce air pollution.

Sometimes it's included within the Pickup & Delivery fee, but, depending on the trucking company, you may see it as a separate line item.

If applicable, a Clean Truck Fee will appear on your Flexport quote or invoice as a destination charge.

## Who pays the clean truck fee?

The fee applies to container moves in and out of the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The trucking company that hauls the container owes it, and the cost usually passes to the cargo owner through the trucker's rate. Depending on the carrier and trucker, you may see it itemized or folded into a broader drayage charge.

## How can you plan for it?

Ask your forwarder or trucker whether the fee is itemized before you compare quotes. A quote that looks cheaper may simply leave the charge out. Other ports run their own programs, so check the terms for each port you use.
