Senior Corporate Communications Manager

We are building technology to make global trade easy.

The opportunity:

Flexport is looking for a senior corporate communications professional to join the Communications team. You will articulate what makes our technology and culture special, and the massive impact it can have on global logistics as we grow. You will also help manage and protect Flexport’s corporate brand, showcasing company growth following 2020, our strongest year of growth on record, growing revenue 1.9x to $1.29b.

You will be part of our Global Brand team, working closely with teammates in Growth, Product Marketing and Internal Comms, and importantly, with our technology and business executives and subject matter experts across the company. You will own business and tech media opportunities with our spokesperson bench, including our CEO & Founder, CTO and CFO, as you conceptualize, research and deliver stories that move the needle for Flexport in a noisy - and sometimes chaotic - landscape.

You will:

  • Build Flexport’s reputation as a world-class technology company through media relations; Successfully pitch Flexport’s technology vision and business growth story
  • Build and map corporate and technology narratives back to tangible proof points from our data and technology development to date
  • Manage tier-1 business and tech press; research media and target audiences, analyze audience conversations, and drive ongoing proactive news bureau activities
  • Develop content around financial updates for press and relevant stakeholders
  • Develop messaging, write press materials, long and short form content, and other documents, including executive briefing books and FAQs
  • Manage crisis communications, both in the moment as well as issues preparedness
  • Ensure alignment of technology and corporate narratives across stakeholders; mentor and work with global PR partners around corporate stories that advance regional priorities
  • Co-manage agency partners providing guidance and assessing output
  • Oversee global agency budgets and manage routine external communications activities like reporting and updating our press page

You should have:

  • A deeply curious mentality: you’re excited to learn about complex problems in a complex industry, and tell the story of how technology can help untangle some legacy pain points in global trade
  • Strong organizational skills: you know how to manage complex projects, multiple stakeholders and competing priorities to create an actionable plan and get the most impactful work done
  • A strategic mindset: you’re always looking around the corner for Flexport while focused on maximizing impact today
  • Rigorous decision making ability: your recommendations are a mix of data and intuition
  • A true team player mentality: you think across the full spectrum of channels available to us in Brand. Flexport is a team-oriented company that requires effective collaboration to drive company-wide results. You are someone who not only likes working in a team, but enjoys leading one, too
  • Proactivity in planning and, maybe even more importantly, excitement to build the feedback loop that will make your plan a success: determining and informing the right stakeholders in Communications and beyond, gaining their buy-in and keeping them informed
  • Data driven. You seek out data to inform your approach and constantly iterate on what you’re doing based on what’s working and what’s not
  • Readiness to roll up your sleeves: we run a lean team so you’ll lead the Corporate Communications discipline but also form and pitch the stories. Sometimes, you’ll be the final editor, sometimes you’ll provide the first draft
  • Incredible writing and communication skills

About Flexport:

We believe global trade can move the human race forward. That’s why it’s our mission to make global trade easier for everyone. We aim to do this by building the Operating System for Global trade - a strategic model combining advanced technology and data analytics, logistics infrastructure, and supply chain expertise. Flexport today connects almost 10,000 clients and suppliers across 116 countries, including established global brands like Georgia-Pacific as well as emerging innovators like Sonos. Started in 2013, we've raised over $1.3B in funding from SoftBank Vision Fund, Founders Fund, GV, First Round Capital and Y Combinator. We’re excited about the three big ways we’re moving forward after our $1B investment from SoftBank Vision Fund in February 2019.

Worried about not having any freight forwarding experience?

Don’t be! Many of us were once in your shoes.

Global trade is an infinitely fascinating but highly complex industry, where purchasing decisions are made every day rather than on an annually recurring basis. Don’t worry, you won’t need to become the world’s expert on ocean freight (we already hired that guy). We’ll look to you to apply your deep understanding of our key audiences, the funnel, and how to meet a digitally connected audience where they are.

It’s incredibly important for us to bring people from diverse backgrounds and experiences together with our industry veterans to help move this industry forward. Flexport is on a mission to make global trade easier for everyone because we believe it can help connect the world and break down economic barriers.

We know this industry is complex. That’s why we invest in education starting day one with Flexport Academy, a one week intensive onboarding program designed specifically to set every new Flexport employee up for success.

At Flexport, our ability to fulfill our mission of making global trade easy for everyone relies on having a diverse, dedicated and engaged workforce. That is why Flexport is committed to creating and nurturing an environment where anyone can be their authentic self. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, physical and mental disability, health status, marital and family status, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, military and veteran status, and any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
