Senior Product Manager, Ocean Pricing

The opportunity

Flexport’s mission is to make global trade easy for everyone, and ocean shipping sits at the core of that mission. It’s Flexport’s largest business line and fundamental to many modern supply chains (most of the goods you see around you were shipped in an ocean container at some point).

As a Senior Product Manager on our Ocean team, you will have tremendous impact launching entirely new products to enable pricing of a reliable shipping experience at a competitive price. You will be a thought leader, align stakeholders across multiple functions, and chart the path out of ambiguity. You will build products that bring design, data science, and automation to an industry that’s long relied on tedious, manual processes.

You will:

  • Work closely with our Business, Operations, and Technology teams to develop a product strategy and roadmap to make the products behind Flexport’s Ocean offerings the very best in the market.
  • Lead cross-functional teams of engineers, designers, researchers, analysts, and operations specialists to implement your product vision.
  • Think deeply on delivering impact on a new area and structure a path forward with multiple stakeholders through a large, ambiguous problem.
  • Become a domain expert: understand the ocean shipping market, competitive landscape, and how Flexport fits into it all.
  • Solve complex problems and innovate within the ocean freight industry to help reimagine global trade!

You should have:

  • At least 5 years of product management or relevant work experience.
  • Core understanding of the levers of a business, how to define, set, and measure KPIs, and experience to methodically ship products that move the needle.
  • Technical competence and the ability to discuss APIs, data models, and services with the engineering team (but you don’t need to be able to code!).
  • Experience in revenue management, pricing products, and building / using rate management tools.
  • Concise, clear, and effective communication skills with a knack for clearly describing customer problems.
  • Thought leadership to create a vision for pricing and build consensus across stakeholders from multiple business units.
  • A strategic eye for developing and scaling up ocean freight pricing products to new geographies and potentially to other products in the future.
  • Independent judgment to identify the most impactful areas of work, strong discipline to prioritize and keep teams focused, and drive to run a smooth product development process
  • Executive presence to hold your own with a senior leadership team.
  • Charisma and strong desire to contribute to the culture of your team, and to propagate an atmosphere that makes work better and more fun!
  • Willingness to travel (up to ~15% of the time).
  • Optionally, experience in supply chain, logistics, and marketplaces.
