Flexport Data presents import and export data collected from U.S. Census statistical records. Here you’ll find recent import and export history of every HS code, which is an internationally standardized system to classify every traded good.

The two charts above represent the sum of American imports and exports since 2008 in US dollars. You’ll find that China is the top origin country for American imports; that goods are imported to California more than any other state; that Canada is America’s biggest destination for exports; and that Texas is the top origin state for American exports.

All 7000 HS Codes, which are created and maintained by the World Customs Organization, are captured and graphically depicted in the following pages. Each is represented by up to a ten-digit code, featuring such categories as 07—- Edible Vegetables & Certain Roots and Tubers and 84—- Nuclear Reactors, Boilers, Machinery and other parts, to 95—- Toys Games, and Sports Equipments. The pages for each of these categories and subcategories detail the value, origins, and destinations of imports and exports of the commodities.

Explore around. You’ll discover many surprising facts about global trade.

The sum of all goods exported from the United States in 2015 was $1,504,597,470,614, which was down from $1,620,531,899,958 in 2014.

The sum of all goods imported to the United States in 2015 was $2,241,663,714,914, which was down from $2,347,685,228,534 in 2014.

The difference between these two numbers is known as the balance of trade for goods. Since the data only tracks goods, not services, these totals reflect only a portion of the United States’ total balance of trade.

Currently, the United States of America runs a trade deficit in goods since there are more goods imported from other countries than the United States exported to other countries, as measured in dollars.

The trade deficit in goods for 2015 was -$737,066,244,300. This increased relative to last year’s -$727,153,328,576.
