Golden Week
What is Golden Week?
Golden Week is the week following the National Day on October 1st to celebrate the founding of the People's Republic of China.
The National Day kicks off a 7-day Golden Week festival that includes parades, ceremonies, and other displays.
How does Golden Week affect shipping?
Factories in China typically close for several days around Golden Week, and many suppliers stop production and shipping. Trucking, ports, and customs offices also slow down, so cargo that would normally leave in early October waits. Workers travel home for the holiday, which can cut factory output for days after it ends.
Exporters often see a rush of orders before the holiday as buyers try to ship ahead of the shutdown, and carriers may cancel sailings afterward to match demand. Book earlier than usual, confirm your supplier's closure dates, and set the cargo ready date with the holiday in mind.
