TTW | Toestemming Tot Wegvoering

What is TTW?

Literally "permission to (re)move the goods" Is the Dutch term for the release document for imported goods, providing permission from the customs authorities for the goods to be removed from Customs supervision. It is only at the point of receiving this document that the goods may be considered as released from customs supervision in the European Union.

When does the TTW matter?

In the Netherlands, the importer's customs broker typically receives the TTW after Dutch Customs accepts the import declaration and clears the goods. Until then, the goods stay under customs supervision, and terminals and carriers usually won't release them for pickup.

What can delay a TTW?

Customs may hold the release if it selects the shipment for a document check or physical inspection, or if it questions the declared value or classification. Keep the invoice, packing list and transport documents ready so your broker can respond quickly.
