B2B Fulfillment
What is B2B fulfillment?
B2B fulfillment is the specialized process of storing and shipping goods from one business to another, typically in large volumes. This involves fulfilling bulk orders to retailers (Retail Distribution), wholesalers, or other business entities. B2B fulfillment is characterized by complex logistics requirements, including palletization & LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) shipping.
How is B2B fulfillment different from ecommerce fulfillment?
B2B orders are larger and ship to fewer addresses, often to retailer distribution centers or wholesalers. Cases and pallets replace single items. Retailers also set strict routing guides that require specific labels, packing standards, and delivery appointments, and they charge penalties when a shipment misses them.
Warehouses that handle B2B orders need pallet racking, forklifts, and the ability to build mixed or full-pallet shipments. Orders often move by LTL or full truckload freight instead of parcel carriers. Companies that sell to both businesses and consumers often fulfill both from the same inventory, which takes software that tracks stock across channels.
