Prep/Kitting Services
What are Prep/Kitting services?
Prep/Kitting services are what are done for individual skus within a fulfillment center. This could be anything from bagging apparel goods, barcoding individual skus, putting different skus together to form a kit, floor unloading of a container, embroidery, etc. There is an endless amount of services that can be done for merchants with their inventory.
How do prep and kitting services work?
When inventory arrives at a fulfillment center, the team can handle each SKU before it goes on the shelf or to a marketplace. Common tasks include labeling and barcoding units, polybagging, applying hangtags and bundling several SKUs into a kit that sells as one item.
Why do merchants use them?
Prep work done in the warehouse spares you from handling units by hand and helps you meet marketplace rules, such as the labeling and packaging requirements for Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA). Providers typically charge per unit or per task, so ask for a rate list before you send inventory.
